Margaret E. Shamblin
Margaret Elizabeth Shamblin (Betty Jane Dugan), 87, of Hot Springs, died on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2012, at a local hospital. Betty was born on May 30, 1925, to the late James and Vera (Caldwell) Dugan in Hot Springs.
Betty graduated from Hot Springs High School where she was homecoming queen and a cheerleader. She married a military man and spent the years after World War II in France, Germany and across the U.S. before settling back in Hot Springs, where she retired from the Rehabilitation Center.
Betty loved to sing “The Tennessee Waltz,” to tend her tomato plants and petunias, and to feed any little animal or bird in her yard. Always in her heart were memories of her beloved cats Abby and Harry.
She is preceded in death by four brothers, Pat, Bill, “Stuffy” and Joe Dugan, and one niece, Kelly Dugan.
She is survived by her one sister, Clara Dugan Howard, and nieces and nephews Elizabeth Echols, Jorja Young, Diane Jones, Jimmy Young, Melissa Knocke, Mike Dugan and Dinah Marrall.
She lived several years at Quapaw Care and Rehabilitation Center. The family is grateful for the care she received there. Betty would love for anyone reading this to make a donation to the Guardian Angels Cat Club.
There will be a private memorial service.
