HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Sally Hess, 76, of Hot Springs Village, died peacefully at home on Nov. 12, 2012. She was born in Fayette, Mo., on April 9, 1936, and lived most of her life in the St. Louis area prior to moving to Hot Springs Village nine years ago.

She was a member of Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines Church. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Elwood K. Needy and Lucille Bowen Needy.

Sally loved nursing. She returned to nursing school at age 30 and began nursing at age 32. She retired several years later due to health reasons and began her obsession to golf, playing in St. Louis with the St. Louis Women’s Golf Association. Upon moving to Hot Springs Village she immediately joined WGA 18 Holes Association but then health problems prevented playing 18 holes, so she joined the WGA 9 Hole Association where she would strap on her oxygen tank and go play. After retiring from golf, bridge was to be tackled and she played until she could not walk from the car or door to the table.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim Hess, of Hot Springs Village; two daughters, Lucie Hess, of Columbia, Mo., and Bambi (Dave) Jablonski, of Hillsboro, Mo.; one son, James (Dana) Hess, of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; grandsons, John and Joe Hess; granddaughter, Raina (Matt) Gill; great-granddaughter, Rylee Gill; one brother, Dr. Elwood (Shirley) Needy; many dear brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines Church, 275 Asturias Drive, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.

A Celebration of Life Service will also be held in the St. Louis area in mid-December, arrangements are not complete.

Donations may be made to Arkansas Hospice, 628 Malvern Ave., Hot Springs, AR or the American Lung Association.
