HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE – Raymond L. Steidel, 94, of Hot Springs Village, died Jan. 28, 2013, after a brief illness. Born May 20, 1918, in St. Joseph, Mo., to the late Emma and Martin Steidel. Ray is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Eleanor.

Survivors include his son, Robert and his wife, Sharon, of Richmond, Va.; two grandsons, Christopher and his wife, Victoria, of Ashburn, Va., and Joel, of Richmond, Va.; and a stepson, Keith Atwood. of Silver City, N.M.

Ray and Eleanor moved to Hot Springs Village in 1982 from Minnetonka, Minn. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was elected to two terms as Justice of the Peace, District 11, Garland County, member of the Garland County Quorum Court, Garland County Finance, Human Relations and Environmental Services Committees, Arkansas State and Trust Advisory Board, HSV Townhouse Board of Directors, POA Recreation Committee, Architectural Control Committee, Woodlands Auditorium Building Committee, a past president of the Audubon Society, and was administrator of Architectural Control for the POA. He was a charter member of Friends of HSV, member of the Sahara Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Bodies of Minneapolis, HSV Shrine Club and belonged to the Whittington Lodge 365 F&AM. He also served two terms as a Silver Hair Legislator.

Ray was a loving and devoted husband and father, and was known for his easy going demeanor.  He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
