Nell (Harp) Borland, of Hot Springs, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013.
She was born Feb. 12, 1924, to Nora and Earl Harp. On July 20, 1940, she married James Borland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, of 58 years.
She is survived by her two children, Robert (Shari) Borland and Shirley (Tommy) Strickland; five grandchildren, Tracy (Ed) Gully, Jamye (David) Jones, Toni (Paul) Flotlin, Bo Strickland, and Tanner Borland; eight great-grandchildren, Drew Gully, Josh Gully, Angie Jones, Jimmy Jones, Carrigan Flotlin, Haylee Flotlin, Molly Strickland, and Cody Strickland.
Nell was very active throughout her life. She was an avid volunteer at the Hot Springs Mercy Senior Center. She became a member there in 1992 and began volunteering in 1998.
From 1998 until her last day of “work” on March 22, 2013, she had volunteered over 18,000 hours.
Most of the hours were spent managing the Center’s resale shop which had been named Nell’s Resale Shop in her honor.
Special thanks to Dr. Kevin Hale and his staff for making “mom” feel like she would live to be 100.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Atkinson Funeral Home in Malvern. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Harp Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bo Strickland, Tanner Borland, Drew Gully, David Jones, Ed Gully, Josh Gully, and Chock Borland.
