A local man was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty in Garland County Circuit Court to felony charges stemming from a break-in to a woman's car last summer.

Darin James Webb, 45, who lists an address of 524 Shady Heights Road, pleaded guilty to breaking or entering and theft of a credit-debit card and was sentenced to five years in prison on each count, to run concurrently, while misdemeanor charges of fraudulent use of a debit-credit card and first-degree criminal mischief were withdrawn.

Webb, who was on parole at the time of his arrest, admitted to his status as a habitual offender, having been previously convicted in 2002 in Polk County of possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia and possession of pseudoephedrine to manufacture methamphetamines and in 2004 in Garland County for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by certain persons.

According to reports, on May 18, 2013, a local woman reported a break-in to her vehicle in the 300 block of Television Hill Road in which her purse, containing her mother's debit card, was stolen. She canceled the card, but later learned it had been used four times, including purchases at a convenience store and a restaurant.

Someone attempted to use it to get money out of a bank's ATM and then later used it at a gas station. Video at the gas station reportedly showed a known female suspect using the card who matched the description of a woman who used it at the convenience store.

On May 29, the female suspect was questioned and admitted to using the card, but claimed she had been with a known female suspect and a man she knew only as "Darin" who broke into a car and stole the purse and card.

Police later identified "Darin" was Webb and confirmed he was the one seen on video attempting to use the card at the ATM. A warrant was issued for Webb and he was arrested Sept. 21, 2013, and had remained in custody since then.

Webb was ordered to pay $170 in court costs but will be given credit for time served since his arrest.
