Sacred classical choral concert is musical reflection for Holy Week

The Muses Project and First Presbyterian Church will present A Lenten Sacred Classical Choral Concert in honor of Holy Week at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the sanctuary of the church, 213 Whittington Ave.

Under the direction of Muses General Director Deleen Davidson, the Chancel Choir of First Presbyterian Church and The Muses Seasonal Choir will present Luigi Cherubini's "Requiem in C Minor."

Choral students from the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts, together with music students from Henderson State University, are participating in this Lenten presentation.

Cherubini's classic masterpiece deftly incorporates majestic crescendo lines with heart-wrenching and tender harmonies designed to take its audience on an awe inspiring sacred musical journey.

"It was hugely successful when it premiered in Paris in 1816, and has stood the test of time. Beethoven believed this to be the most beautiful Requiem ever written," a news release said.

Accompanying this choir of 40-plus voices, ranging in age from 16-84, will include professional musicians Kristen La Madrid, organist, Steve Suter, trombonist, and Shelly Martin, flutist.

Everyone is welcome to attend this free concert. A love offering will be taken.
