Local woman allegedly shot at by stepson at trailer park, no one injured

A local woman was allegedly fired upon outside her residence Tuesday night by a known suspect she identified as her stepson in a trailer park south of Hot Springs.

the suspect, identified as John Lloyd Holmes, 39, who was in a yellow and black 2001 Ford Mustang, began shooting at her.

She said she ran back toward the house as the suspect chased her and continued to fire at her, but she was not injured. One of the bullets reportedly hit the window of her vehicle.

The report notes eight to 12 shots were fired and some of the rounds apparently also hit a silver 2003 Jeep belonging to another man, 60, of Hot Springs, who was at the trailer park.

He told investigators his Jeep was hit at least two times, in the rear door and the rear taillight.

Three other witnesses to the shooting, ages 33, 26 and 23, who also lived at the park, spoke to investigators about what they saw and GCSD investigator Kenny Ford reportedly took photos and gathered evidence at the scene.

Holmes was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon for a parole violation, but was later charged with criminal attempt at first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by certain persons and third-degree domestic battery.

He was being held without bond and is set to appear Sept. 9 in Garland County District Court.

ā€¢ A former employee of an area grocery store was arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly stealing money while she was still working there over the weekend.

Mocharice Kewanna West, 19, who lists an address of 139 Piney Loop, was taken into custody at Harps, 146 Thornton Ferry Road, shortly after 3 p.m. and charged with theft of property, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. She was later released on $1,000 bond and is set to appear Sept. 2 in district court.

According to the affidavit, GCSD Deputy Ashley Collier responded to the store and spoke to the manager who had West detained in his office. He alleged West had taken $100 from the cash register on Saturday.

West told Collier that the manager had her write out a letter admitting to the theft and almost made a spontaneous statement she had taken the money for her family. In the letter, she noted, "My family is going through a rough time and I just wanted to help. I'm very sorry."

ā€¢ A 5-year-old Pearcy girl was reportedly bitten in the face by a dog Tuesday afternoon in Pearcy and the dog had not been located yet.

The victim, who lives on Burmaster Lane, was reportedly on the porch of a residence in the 500 block of Lost Creek Road, which is located off Burmaster, shortly after 4 p.m. when she got attacked by a brown dog.

The dog reportedly bit her severely on the left side of her face, causing a deep laceration. The victim was transported by LifeNet to CHI St. Vincent for treatment and her condition was not known.

The report notes a deputy had a photo of the dog and Hot Springs Animal Control was notified of the situation. It was not known who the dog belonged to at the time of report.
