Police needs electronic device chargers

The Hot Springs Police Department asks the public to donate old chargers and cables for portable electronic devices to help it locate the original owners.

The department, in a news release, said cellphones, tablets, iPods, cameras, and other devices that are turned into the police department, or recovered by officers, often have a dead battery. Without the proper charger or cable, the release said, it is difficult, if not impossible, to find the owner.

The release said that, due to the multitude of chargers and cables on the market, the police department cannot ensure that it will have a compatible charger or cable for every device it recovers, and asks the public to consider donating its old cables and chargers to the department instead of disposing of them.

ā€œIf we canā€™t use them, we will re-donate them or dispose of them for you in a way that is environmentally safe. We all work hard for the things that we have and your donated charging accessories can help us return some of these expensive lost or stolen devices back to their owners,ā€ the release said.

Charging accessories can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays at the front desk of the police department, 641 Malvern Ave.

Cables and chargers that could be used include the following:

ā€¢ Cables, chargers, charging bases and power cords for any brand of cellphone, camera, laptop or tablet.

ā€¢ Rechargeable batteries compatible with any brand of cellphone, camera, laptop or tablet.
