Dear editor: No joking matter

Dear editor:

Yes, Mr. Bauer, it is time that all of us think about the situation in Ferguson, Mo., for a while and try to come up with solutions for the racial divide in this country.

You may think that you are being funny suggesting that the answer would be to work out an entitlement program that would have given free cigars to the young man who was killed by the police officer. The situation was tragic for the young man, his family, and I suspect for the officer who made the decision to pull his trigger several times. We don't know all the facts and the differing accounts from witnesses should give all of us a reason for caution before judging the death of this young man. None of us would justify the actions of this young man that were clearly presented in the video from store video.

However, should that impact our feeling about the action of the police officer who, according to his chief, was not aware of the robbery. I think that all of us deplore the mentality of anyone who thinks that they can just take what they want and challenge anyone to do anything about it. Before making further judgments, let's wait to see what caused this young officer to take the final step of deciding to shoot Mr. Brown.

I would suggest to Mr. Bauer that he take his own advice, "Yea, have to think about this one for a while." He certainly hasn't to this point in time and it is really no joking matter.
