A local man was arrested on multiple felony charges Wednesday in connection with an attempted robbery that ended with three men, including the suspect, being shot last week.

Tyrone Lamont Hayes, 26, who lists an address of 128 Tennessee St., was taken into custody shortly after 11 a.m. at National Park Medical Center after his release and charged with aggravated robbery and committing a terroristic act, punishable by up to life in prison, two counts of first-degree battery and one count of possession of a firearm by certain persons, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Hayes, who was on parole from multiple prior felony convictions, was still being held without bond Thursday and is set to appear Sept. 9 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, on Aug. 20, shortly after 11:30 a.m., Hot Springs police responded to the intersection of Locust and Coy streets regarding a shooting and arrived to find two victims with serious gunshot wounds in two different locations in about a two-block area.

One victim, 27, was found in the parking lot of the Hot Springs Housing Authority, 810 Spring St., with a gunshot wound to the left side of his head where the bullet had exited through his neck on the opposite side.

The second victim, 19, was found down the hill from the first lying on the ground near the corner of Locust and Spring Street, just one block from Coy Street, with a gunshot wound to his left leg where the bullet had struck his femoral artery resulting in severe blood loss.

The second victim was given emergency first aid by HSPD Officer Shawn Lowrey, who applied a tourniquet to his leg and stabilized him until LifeNet personnel could arrive and transport him and the first victim to area hospitals.

HSPD Chief David Flory later said he believed the second victim "would have bled to death if not for the actions of our officer," and this was later confirmed by the doctors at the hospital.

Police spoke to several witnesses in the neighborhood who said they had heard gunshots and looked out to see two black males running away from a black Toyota Matrix that both victims were in.

A few minutes after finding the two victims, police located another gunshot victim, later identified as Hayes, at the Economy Inn, 805 E. Grand, which is only about two blocks from the scene of the shooting.

Hayes had reportedly been shot once in the stomach and officers noted he matched the description of one of the two men seen running from the scene. Hayes was taken to NPMC for treatment.

The next day, HSPD Detective S. Lampinen interviewed the victims at the hospital and the first victim, 27, told him it was Hayes who had shot them during a robbery. He noted he had known Hayes for a few years.

He said Hayes had called him earlier that morning wanting to purchase some marijuana and they had agreed to meet at the corner of Locust and Coy streets to make the deal.

The first victim picked up the second victim and they both drove to the intersection and they were sitting there in the car when Hayes walked up and they began making the transaction.

Hayes allegedly pulled out a black, semi-automatic handgun, put it to the first victim's face and stated, "Give me everything." The suspect began going through the victim's pockets and then suddenly shot him in the head.

The second victim, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, then pulled out a handgun and shot Hayes in the stomach who in turn shot the second victim in the leg.

The second victim reportedly also identified Hayes as the shooter from a photo lineup.

The affidavit notes Hayes was previously convicted in 2007 for criminal mischief and in 2013 for theft by receiving and possession of a firearm by certain persons, all in Garland County, and in 2008 in Dallas, Texas, for tampering with physical evidence, all felonies.
