CWU holds Human Rights Celebration

Church Women United in Garland County will hold its Human Rights Celebration at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 841 Quapaw. Church Women United is a national Christian women's movement that brings together women of diverse races, cultures and traditions in a closer fellowship, worship and prayer to promote peace and justice in the world. CWU engages women representing 26 denominations and participating Christian women in the United States. Everyone is welcome to the celebration.

The theme is "Through God Our Hands Can Protect." The CWU Human Rights Celebration was started in 2006 in the hopes of bringing to light those who have and are working toward peace and justice for all. This is the same message that Jesus gave while He was on Earth, when He said, "love one another as I have loved you." The speaker will be Kim Bermea, of B.A.R.B.S. Place (Babies Adults Recovery Based Services). Our altruistic project is to bring diapers of all sizes and wipes. They also need towels, washcloths and bed linens. Attendees are welcome to bring these articles to this meeting to be donated to B.A.R.B.S. Place.

A CWU Human Rights Award will be presented at this meeting. The Human Rights Award recognizes individuals and organizations who have been working in the field of human rights and have made an impact on our community.
