YAC accepting new students

The Youth Advisory Council is accepting new youths ahead of the groups first meeting of the new school year on Sept. 8.

It is a youth-led organization co-chaired this year by Isaac Schaffer, a sophomore at Lakeside High School, and Elle Henson, a junior at Lake Hamilton High School. YAC is a diverse group of high school students who have an interest in giving back to build a strong community.

Since being established in 2002, YAC has awarded over $85,000 in grants. This past May, YAC awarded $15,000 to nine local non-profits for worthy projects.

YAC adult advisors attend each meeting and mentor the members in endowment building, leadership responsibilities, service to the community and responsible grantmaking. Adult advisors are Stephanie Alderdic, Blake Campbell, Ann Carrithers, Ashley Naramore, Kerry Owen and Susannah Wright.
