Flute ensemble performs area Christmas concerts

"Jingle Bells Rock" is the theme for the Christmas concerts of the Hot Springs Flute Ensemble this season.

A nonprofit organization, the HSFE is affiliated with Hot Springs Community Band, National Park Community College, and the National Flute Association.

Conducted by Sigilda Naidin, the group will perform at 1 p.m. Dec. 20 at Country Club Village and at 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa.

The concert will be repeated at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 22 in Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens.

Concerts are free admission and donations are requested.

The concert includes "Jingle Bells Prism,"which presents the familiar tune in seven different variations according to various musical styles. Other numbers are "We Need a Little Christmas," "Winter Wonderland," "Snowmen and Icicles," "Evening Snowfall," "Renaissance Noels," "Jolly Old St. Nicholas," "Ukrainian Bell Carol," and "Feliz Navidad."

The 35-member ensemble uses a variety of flutes in the performance.

On piccolo and C flute are Lynn Clardy, Donna Toler, and Sarah Marie Linneman.

C flutists are Regenia Bettis, Darlene Spradling, Sue Kelly, Payton Teague, Becky Harvey, Janet Moore, Marilyn Coffman, Deonne and Josie Carson, Marcia Gilmore, Janis Hopper, Riddhi Modi, Ann Wieks, Leoni Bermejo, Rebecca Irwin, Steve Bonner, Kajal Bharany, Bob Casteel, Priscilla Wacaster, and Hal Thompson.

Alto flutists are Sara Ferril, Ann Smedley, Kathy Skinner, Makayla Lovell, Marilyn Lihs, Marty Kockman, Patricia Duke, and Jaree Hall.

Bass flutists are Jackie Flowers, Ronald Johnson, Sarah Minor, John Skinner, and Leah Venable.

Rhonda Hall and Kristin Grant will play the contra bass flutes.

This season, the group will also entertain residents of West Shores and Forest Lakes and participate in the Sigma Alpha Iota Musicale Luncheon.
