Support groups

Hot Springs Carousel Readers' Theater entertains audiences with performances emphasizing humor and enthusiasm. The group is unique in that actors remain behind music stands, acting out characters using facial expressions, voice and gestures. There is limited memorization since actors have scripts in front of them. People of all ages interested in theatrical study and performance are welcome to attend meetings from 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays at Garland County Library. Cast members have appeared at Gallery Walk, civic clubs, churches and school groups, assisted living and nursing facilities, and other celebrations of the arts. Ouachita Mountain Hiking Club will do trail maintenance on the Ouachita Trail in the Flatside Wilderness area north of Jessieville on Thursday. The club welcomes anyone who is willing to volunteer to help with the tasks of lopping, cleaning debris from the trail and removing fallen trees. To volunteer or ask for information, call Ralph Butler, trail boss, at 922-1916. The club will go to the Ouachita National Forest north of Jessieville to climb Forked Mountain on Saturday. This "hike" is basically a climb on rocks up to the top of a mountain. It is not for everyone, but can be fun for those who like a challenge.
