Focus on good

With the Fourth of July just over, I was thinking, what a great country we live in. Our Constitution was written over 200 years ago, and with a few amendments to it, it is still up to date today. Isn't that amazing? Our forefathers used the Bible as their groundwork, it and our Constitution are still used daily as the basis we live by.

Being an immigrant to this great nation, I especially appreciate what we have. I survived the holocaust in Germany, and I know what it means to be a non-person. We Americans are a very special people. Whenever there is a need in the world, we are there. When a people are oppressed, we send in our troops to free them. We have never been in a war to gain anything. After we defeat our enemies, we help to rebuild that country. I know that first-hand, since I lived in Germany at the end of World War II. The German people thought that there was something wrong with Americans. They said they defeated us and now they are helping us form a new country. I never understood the American mindset until I served in the Air Force and became one of those crazies. When I was in Vietnam, we established orphanages and first aid stations. Those things never made the news since it was just one of those things Americans do.

Let's stop complaining about what's wrong with America. Whatever is wrong with our government now, our people will survive it. America was built on solid ground. On God, the Bible and patriotism. As long as we remember that, we will always be the greatest country in the world.
