The Arkansas Jazz Experience will feature saxophonist Dave Williams II on Friday at Quapaw Baths & Spa, 413 Central Ave.

The fourth Friday of the month event starts with complimentary hors d'oeuvres served at 6 p.m.

Williams currently pays sax with TwiceSax, Almost Infamous, The John Burnette Band, The Mercers, Little Rock Horns, Big John Miller Band, Little Joe & The BK's, Dave Rosen Big Band, The Drew Pickens Duo, Free Verse, Charlotte Taylor & Gypsy Rain, The Morange Get Down Band, and the Dave Williams Trio-Quartet.

He has performed with The Four Tops, The Viceroys, Sweet Nothin' Revival, Joe Marks & the NTO Band, the Conway Pops Orchestra, the Pine Bluff Pops Orchestra, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Brothers with Different Mothers, Weakness for Blondes and HarMegiddo.

He enjoys taking familiar standards such as "All Blues," "Sugar," and "Wave" and playing them with a fresh interpretation, either in a different meter, speed or style.

He says making music is the highest form of communication, and that above all else, playing should be fun.

"You've got to know how to play your horn, but it's all about building your vocabulary and having a conversation," he said.

"You've got to have fun. If you're not having fun you shouldn't be playing."

Admission is $10 for jazz society members and $15 for non-members.

Those who join that evening receive free admission.
