Dear editor: Who to blame

Dear editor:

If nothing else, my original letter did spark a lively debate on global warming. We've heard from liberals who were appalled and aghast. They thought this was all settled and that by now, everyone was, of course, on the global warming bandwagon, so they were shocked when they found out otherwise.

I mentioned Joe Bastardi and the fact that he was touted as the only long-range forecaster to get it right about this past colder than normal winter. I said he was a second generation meteorologist, for brevity's sake, I didn't explain the significance of that which was pointed out by Gary when he thought it meaningless.

Joe credits his dad as being one of the first meteorologists to understand the significance of water temperature along the equator and its effect on climate on the various continents like our own North America. Being the beneficiary of such knowledge is, of course, one of the reasons Joe is maybe the best of this nation's weather forecasters.

You may not know the equatorial waters are tempered by the ice surrounding the Antarctic, it, by the way, much more so than the Arctic. As the ice across the bays of the Antarctic freeze, the now very saline filled super-chilled water sinks and over time travels along the bottom lowest depths until it reaches the equator, where it wells up and tempers the much warmer equatorial waters that we have just noted play such an important role on all the continents weather patterns. In a way, the weather we are experiencing at this time is sort of a reflection of a time capsule. The cycle from Antarctic to equator takes approximately 500 years.

So I think the meaning of all this is very clear. The Democrats are blaming the wrong generation of people. The Democrats need to go back and pursue the people who lived 500 years ago, especially those who lived in the Antarctic at that time. If there is, in fact, global warming, it is that generation that is at fault. We in turn will be to blame for the weather patterns affecting the earth 500 years from now. Since in my estimation the chance that any people will be around at that time is about nil, why worry?
