Jerry Cain's wife, Linda D. Cain, 65, told deputies Garrett Cain had been threatening to kill himself and his family and became aggressive toward his grandfather who "begged him to stop."

She stated Garrett would not stop advancing toward the elder Cain so he finally shot him one time with his gun.

Lt. James "Corky" Martin said in a release Tuesday night that the two men were arguing in the kitchen and Garrett Cain threatened his grandfather with a knife and charged at him.

A call from the residence was received at 8:23 p.m. and GCSD Deputy John Schroeder was dispatched to the residence and arrived shortly after 8:30 p.m. to find Jerry Cain sitting in his vehicle at the end of the driveway and detained him.

LifeNet also responded and Garrett Cain was airlifted to St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment of what appeared to be a non-life threatening injury.

Jerry Cain was also transported by LifeNet ambulance to St. Vincent for treatment.

GCSD Capt. Shelby Terry said he didn't anticipate any charges being filed in the incident, which was still under investigation Wednesday.
