Join meeting for answers

Mr. Jim Pumphrey, I would like to thank you for your interest in the Lake Hamilton Fire and Rescue Department's welfare. The LHF&R board has always solicited comments from its membership. The Board of Directors, which consists of six members, two firefighters and four from the general membership, all well-experienced in business, meets monthly at 6:30 p.m., except in December, at the Mathew Simpson Memorial Fire Station, 1111 Highway 290, and always invites their members to attend and join in the discussions concerning the welfare of LHF&R.

If you had attended their July meeting, you would have had answers to all of your questions and be able to contribute to the discussion. Members attending our meetings get copies of all the material given to the board.

As concerns the physicals for the firefighters, LHF&R has always put firefighter safety at the top of the list. New products are always coming out to add to their safety. The board has always done its best to furnish available safety equipment. Funding new purchases is always a challenge. The physicals have not been passed over, only delayed a bit to find the funding and best method to accomplish this important purchase.

So far as the ladder truck is concerned, to improve our fire classification, it is demanded by the ISO organization which rates fire departments, which in turn is used by insurance companies to determine your insurance premium.

The decision to choose the 10-year loan over the seven-year loan was chosen after a great deal of discussion. And after considering present funding needs and future income. the 10-year loan was the best choice, particularly since they have the privilege of prepayment.

Mr. Pumphrey, I hope I can meet you at the next board meeting on Aug. 12.

To explain my association with the LHF&R, I have served on the board for 27 years, 19 years as board president. I retired March 2012 at the annual membership meeting. At present, my only association with the department is as a dues-paying member for fire protection and a desire to see the best fire department possible, but I do not speak for the board, only as a concerned dues-paying member of LHF&R!
