Oaklawn's marketing department received six Romero Awards during the closing ceremonies of the Gaming Marketing Conference July 17 in Las Vegas, marking the fifth straight year the team has been recognized for its work among other small to mid-size gaming centers across the North America. The six awards, that included one Diamond Award, four Gold Awards and one Silver, was a personal record for the Oaklawn marketing team, which had earned five in 2012 and four in 2013.

The Diamond Award, the highest award given, was for the email promotion "Presidential Clue." The Gold Awards were for the email promotion "12 Rooms of Christmas," the VIP event "Construction VIP" and the floor promotion "ElvisPalooza." The Silver Award was for the direct mail promotion "Jumble in the Jungle." Oaklawn also received three honorable mentions.

"As we reach the halfway point in our expansion project, it is exciting to know that we have successfully kept our guests engaged and that our hard work is being recognized by others in the industry," said Kim Baron, director of marketing. "We have set lofty goals for ourselves as we head into 2015 with 50 percent more gaming capacity, but it is a challenge that our team is looking forward to."

Romero Awards honor excellence in gaming marketing and are named for gaming marketing pioneer and author John Romero. These awards, in the categories of Direct Mail Marketing, E-Mail Marketing, PR Campaign, Website Marketing, VIP Promotion and Gaming Floor Promotion, recognize gaming operators that best fulfill the spirit of Romero's more than 50-year crusade for effective, measurable and accountable gaming marketing expenditures. The winners are selected by a panel of expert judges and Romero himself.
