Barber joins Oaklawn as gaming food and beverage manager

Jimmy Barber, a 2003 graduate of Henderson State University, has joined Oaklawn in the newly created position of gaming food and beverage manager. His role will be very instrumental in the success of the food and beverage operation in the gaming area, especially once the expansion is completed in early November. Among the new features will be the Silks Bar & Grill and Bistro.

Barber began his food and beverage career as a cook at Pizza Hut while still in college and was quickly promoted to assistant manager. After he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration, he was again promoted to general manger of Pizza Hut in Prescott. From there he moved into the position of area director where he oversaw the opening of three restaurants and the renovation of three others during his six-year tenure with the company. In 2009, he joined Brinker International as general manager of the Chili's in Marshall, Texas, and remained in that position until joining Oaklawn in early August.

"Jimmy's background made him the ideal candidate as we prepare to open the expanded gaming area," said Belinda Castleberry. director of food and beverage. "It's quite the challenge trying to open a new restaurant, while also maintaining our current dining options. He's hit the ground running and impressed us all with his knowledge and ideas."

Barber, who grew up in in Fouke, relocated to Hot Springs from Texas with his wife, Kara, who also accepted a position with Oaklawn in the cashier cage.
