Wine & Food Fest benefits Project HOPE Food Bank

The Hot Springs Food & Wine Festival is a fundraiser to assist families struggling with food insecurity in the community.

The event is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Oct. 4 at Central Park Fusion Restaurant, 200 Park Ave.

Project HOPE Food Bank will use the proceeds to purchase food to assist agencies that serve those at risk of hunger. The agencies include children's homes, feeding centers, crisis centers, faith-based and community pantries.

Affordable food allows the agencies to focus resources on specific endeavors for a more sustainable community.

The organization is volunteer-based and its building and equipment are debt-free, which enables the food bank to use 95 percent of every dollar donated to purchase food to distribute in the community. The current distributions are 50,000 to 60,000 pounds of food a month, a news release said.

The Arkansas Community foundation released a report in 2013 showing 20.9 percent of the community lives in poverty. Many of those affected are children and seniors.

Tickets are available at http://www.hotspringswineandfoodfest.com or by calling 623-3663 to donate an item for the silent auction.
