Junior Cobras outgun Ashdown in 2OT, 40-38

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- Tanner Tedford's 10-yard touchdown run and Paron Johnson's conversion put Fountain Lake ahead in the second overtime, and the Cobras stopped an Ashdown run for the tying two points in a 40-38 junior-high conference victory Thursday night on Allen Tillery Field at Beckham Stadium.

Tedford and Cameron Willis each ran for two Fountain Lake touchdowns, Willis going over from the one in the first overtime for 32-all. The Panthers took the lead on the fifth of Alex Taylor's six touchdown passes, a 16-yard toss to Kenny George.

Sammy Harris caught Taylor's other scoring throws, the last covering 17 yards in the first overtime. The duo also connected for touchdowns covering 66 and 48 yards, the latter ending the first half, and 17 and 23 yards in the third quarter. Taylor evened the score at 26 with a conversion run, neither team scoring in the fourth period.

Johnson, who led Fountain Lake (3-0, 1-0 in 4A-7) with 32 yards on 15 carries, opened the see-saw scoring with a 42-yard first-quarter run and added the conversion. James Mullin sacked Taylor in the end zone for a 10-6 second-quarter Cobra lead, and Willis' five-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion made it 18-6. Tedford's nine-yard run and conversion in the third quarter put Fountain Lake ahead 26-18.

Fountain Lake plays host to Dover next week.

JH football:

Hot Springs-Arkadelphia

ARKADELPHIA -- Taqueze Gordon's two touchdown runs paced Hot Springs to a 20-14 road win over Arkadelphia Thursday night.

Kenneth Byrd helped seal the outcome with a 31-yard scoring run in the third quarter and an interception on the game's final play. Coby Wallace's conversion run after Byrd's touchdown gave the Trojans (2-1) a 20-7 lead.

Gordon, who led Hot Springs with 94 yards on nine carries, scored on a 25-yard run late in the first quarter and a 35-yarder 20 seconds before halftime for a 12-7 advantage. Arkadelphia's touchdowns came in the second and fourth periods.

Hot Springs quarterback Chris Stewart ran for 64 yards on 11 carries. Nick Walker was the Trojans' leading tackler.

Hot Springs plays Camden Fairview next week at home.

Lake Hamilton-Bryant

BRYANT -- Quarterback Bryan Field ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as Bryant downed Lake Hamilton 33-8 Thursday night.

Hector Villenueva's five- and 41-yard scoring runs in the first quarter gave Bryant a 12-0 lead. Lake Hamilton (2-1) answered with Utah Aitken's 21-yard touchdown pass to Degen Stacks and Randall Nichols' conversion run, but Field's 26-yard toss to Jon Schultz and a two-point conversion put the Hornets ahead 20-8. Field scored in the third and fourth quarters.

Nichols led the Wolves with 142 rushing yards. Aitken threw for 71.

Lake Hamilton plays Benton next week at home.

Lakeside-LR Christian

LITTLE ROCK -- Scoring twice in each of the first two periods, Little Rock Christian Academy opened a 30-0 halftime lead en route to a 38-7 win over Lakeside Thursday night.

The Rams (0-3) scored in the fourth quarter on Adam Saveall's 48-yard pass to Zack Zimmerman. Phillip Gayle kicked the extra point.

Saveall finished four of nine for 72 yards, and Dupree Swanson led Lakeside with 62 rushing yards on 10 carries. Torin Davis led the defense with four tackles and a sack.

The Rams play Malvern next week at home.

Prescott-Jessieville

JESSIEVILLE -- Cade Haynie threw for four touchdowns and rushed for another, leading Prescott to a 48-22 3A-5 win over Jessieville Thursday night at Phillips Field.

Haynie broke a 39-yard touchdown run only 30 seconds into the game, Ka'Darius Pearson adding the two-point conversion. The Lions (1-2, 0-1) responded as Montana Carden hit Sawyer Lamb on a 59-yard touchdown pass, pulling within 8-6.

Haynie struck again with a little more than a minute left of the opening quarter, completing a 35-yard touchdown to Peyton Chandler followed by Laroderick Walker's two-point run for a 16-6 advantage. With 6:32 left in the first half, Walker ran 21 yards for a TD and Chase Subin for two points.

Carden cut the halftime deficit to 24-14 with his second scoring completion to Lamb, this time from 22 yards out. Dylan Wright made the two-point conversion.

Haynie heated up in the second half, tossing a 37-yard score to Mykal Burns with 2:42 left in the third quarter for a 32-14 advantage. Wright retunred the ensuing kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown followed by Carden's two-point run for a 32-22 deficit.

Haynie put the game away with a 34-yarder to Pearson 38 seconds after the return and a 64-yarder to Chandler with 3:31 left in the game. Haynie completed nine of 11 for 217 yards, also leading the Wolves in rushing with 71 yards on six carries.

Wright led the Lions with 105 yards on 21 carries. Jessieville travels to Bismarck next week.

HS volleyball:

Malvern-Fountain Lake

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- Fountain Lake's Lady Cobras cruised to a 4A-7 conference victory over Malvern Thursday night at Bass Gymnasium, 25-9, 25-13, 25-20.

Pearl Lee was tough to handle on Fountain Lake's front line, recording 13 kills and five tips. Carlee Darnell added five kills for the Lady Cobras (8-2, 2-0), with Lexie Hood serving 16 points.

Fountain Lake's junior varsity won 25-16, 25-10 behind Jill Waldrop's 10 service points. The junior Lady Cobras started the night with a 25-14, 25-18 sweep, Isabelle Baker leading with seven kills and 11 service points.

Fountain Lake continues conference play Tuesday, hosting Waldron.

Benton-Lake Hamilton

PEARCY -- After fighting off a second-set challenge, Benton completed a 25-11, 25-20, 25-13 conference volleyball sweep of host Lake Hamilton Thursday night.

Shelby Powell led the Lady Wolves (8-5, 2-2 in 6A-South) with seven kills and a block. Sophie Curtis had six kills and nine digs and Madisson Williams 11 digs.

Benton's junior varsity won 25-13, 27-25, Lake Hamilton (6-2, 2-2) getting four kills and seven digs from Hallie Teeter. The Lady Wolves' Paige Hoover had seven assists and nine digs and Destiny Ramos two kills and a block.

Lake Hamilton plays Tuesday at Little Rock Parkview.

Lakeside-White Hall

WHITE HALL -- Erica Hendrix recorded nine kills and Mady Rottinghaus six in Lakeside's 3-0 victory over White Hall Thursday night.

Lane Davis posted 23 assists and Nena Igbokidi contributed three blocks in the 25-14, 25-15, 25-13 decison. Lakeside takes a 3-0 conference record (8-4 overall) into Tuesday's home match against Camden Fairview.

Lakeside's junior varsity improved to 3-0 in conference, 5-2 overall, with a 25-11, 25-8 win over White Hall.

High-school golf:

El Dorado-Lakeside

Medalist Chandler Cain shot a par 72, and Lakeside's boys defeated El Dorado by seven strokes Thursday at Hot Springs Country Club.

Cain edged the Wildcats' Gage Parker by a stroke on the Park course. Cade Freeland shot 76 for the Rams, Jake Palmer adding a 79 and Alex Corjay an 82. El Dorado's Pete Carroll had a 77.

The Lady Rams coasted by 29 strokes, Rai Pullin and Haleigh Homer each shooting 94 and Gracen Blount 96 for a 284 total. Ariel King paced El Dorado with a 101.
