PEARCY -- The Agricultural Science program at Lake Hamilton moved into a brand-new building at the beginning of the school year.

The classes are now incorporating Curriculum in Agricultural Science Education.

"We are excited about the investment into the CASE curriculum for our students," said Kirk Nance, principal of Lake Hamilton High School. "The CASE curriculum will challenge our students with real-world scientific application of agricultural practices. These are the same practices that students will be engaged in if they choose many of the careers in agriculture."

One of the courses being implemented is the Principal of Agricultural Science course, a foundation-level course designed to engage students in hands-on laboratories and activities to explore the world of animal agriculture.

Throughout the course, students will develop a comprehensive Producer's Management Guide for an animal of their choice. Student experiences will involve the study of animal anatomy, physiology, behavior, nutrition, reproduction, health, selection and marketing.

Students will consider the perceptions and preferences of individuals within local, regional and world markets, learn the characteristics of animal science and work on major projects and problems similar to those that animal science specialists face in their careers.

Teachers are provided detailed professional development to facilitate instruction. Every lesson is aligned with national standards for agriculture, science, mathematics and English language arts.

"I commend Mr. Braziel and Mr. Dykes for taking the initiative to implement the program for the benefit of our students," Nance said. "The CASE curriculum continues the legacy of outstanding agriculture education at Lake Hamilton."
