Off-duty reassurance

Dear editor:

Congratulations to Jeannie Stringer for her response to the mean-spirited criticism of law enforcement officers driving their assigned cars home. That condemnation in the letter to the editor was seemingly without thought or reasoning.

We drive down Rock Creek Road, where a police officer lives and their car is parked, at least once a day. The mileage to the police station is, maybe, 5-6 miles each way. When that car and its officer are not on duty, the police vehicle is parked, aimed, ready to go at a moment's notice.

A perk? I think not -- the readiness of that vehicle is a necessity. It's loaded with all the equipment and tools essential to a law officer.

Seeing the black-and-white car parked, ready to go and pointing toward Rock Creek is reassuring as we drive back and forth. We like seeing it!

Thank you, Stringer family, for your contributions to safety and security of our community.
