Zeta Chi topic: History of Essex Park

Zeta Chi Sorority will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in the Maurice Room at National Park Medical of Center. Guest speaker Lanny Beavers, director of survey for Garver Engineers, will share photos and talking about the history of Essex Park Race Track, which was opened in Hot Springs in 1904.

Beavers serves as governor of the Arkansas Society of Professional Surveyors, has been a member of the Society of Professional Surveyors for eight years and served as president before being voted into the governorship. He is "the Mayor of Hogville," a message board for Arkansas football fans to talk all things Razorback.

Land commissioner candidate to speak

Mark A. Robertson, Democratic candidate for Arkansas land commissioner, will discuss the importance of that public office at noon Monday at the Democratic Headquarters, 608 W. Grand Ave.

Stress reduction, addiction recovery class

An free introduction to mindfulness-based approaches to stress reduction and addictions recovery class will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room B at Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave. It will include lecture, guided meditations, question and answer, and handouts.
