Writing on faith

Dear editor:

Response to Mr. Cann (quoted):

"For over 30 years, I have been a page-to-page reader of this newspaper." May you live another 30 years!

"I leave letters to the editor to the last. It would make a grown man scream." Yet, you have graciously added to this very active section! (You don't need to scream; we can hear you.)

"Folks, please stop the 'holier-than-thou' language ..." Why, that's part of the enjoyment of writing an editorial!

"... and recognize that countering truth with a small 't' with Truth with a capital 'T' is no argument." That is a very good point! Some will even go so far as to write "God" with a capital "G" instead of "god" with a small "g!" (How should one handle "truth" if it begins a sentence?)

"One is fact, the other opinion." Well, now, you have volunteered the difference between 'Truth" and "truth" very well!

"When you play the God card, you end all reasonable discussion." Yes! All bets are off!

"I suggest that letters quoting scripture, or its equivalent, be given their own space on the religion page." But that page is part of the newspaper! Perhaps the religion page needs to be a religion supplement! That will demonstrate that no editorial could possibly be about religion! Since many follow science as a religion, and others politics, perhaps these, too, need to be removed from the editorial page!

"That would invite 't' vs. 'T,' the argument which may even evolve into a comparative religions debate." But then, you wouldn't read that section, and we would be deprived of your commenting in the editorial section!

Instead of screaming, just write once in a while; this is one place where you can be heard. You can also give your thoughts regarding faith, and regarding what others have written regarding faith!
