Red Wolves rally past Utah St. in OT

JONESBORO -- Johnston White knotted the score deep in the game, Artez Brown blocked a short field goal to force overtime, and Arkansas State needed only two plays in the extra period to cap an improbable comeback victory, 21-14, over Utah State Saturday night.

Utah State had forced four turnovers and seven punts and seemed poised to nab its first win in Jonesboro, leading 14-7 with 4:58 to play. The Aggies (2-2) had Arkansas State (2-2) backed up at fourth-and-9 before a pass interference penalty gave the Red Wolves new life at the 3.

White, who rushed for 100 yards, punched it in from the 4. Utah State lined up for a 38-yard field goal try with 3 seconds left only to have Brown sweep in for the block.

In OT, Fredi Knighten fired a 24-yarder to Dijon Paschal for the win.

Utah State's Darell Garretson threw for 268 yards and two TDs.

Missouri St. 33, C. Arkansas 31

CONWAY -- Marcelo Bonani kicked a career-best 53-yard field goal as time expired to give Missouri State a 33-31 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday night.

Willie Matthews scored with 59 seconds remaining to give UCA (1-3) a 31-30 lead. Kierra Harris, who finished with 342 yards and two touchdowns, quickly moved Missouri State (3-1) to UCA's 36 where Bonani lined up for the winning field goal. Harris was on his own 40 with 30 seconds remaining when he hit Julian Burton with a 29-yard pass to get Bonani within range. Bonani had missed a point after attempt in the second quarter.

Missouri State led 20-17 at the end of the third quarter. Harris padded that when he hit Josh Mattes for a score. Matthews answered with a 13-yard score as UCA trailed 27-24. Bonani kicked a 34-yarder for a 30-24 advantage before Matthews' 1-yard run put UCA up by one.
