In the Pink luncheon set for Friday

The keynote speaker for the 12th annual CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs "In the Pink Luncheon" will be a 15-year cancer survivor.

Beverly Hill, who was previously a model at the event, will speak at the noon event Friday in Horner Hall at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The event is held to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

"I've been a model before, but this time I'm the speaker. It is such an honor," she said in a news release.

In addition to the luncheon, there will be a silent auction, entertainment, drawing for door prizes, a photo booth, and a fashion show.

Hill said she was three months pregnant with twins when she learned she had breast cancer.

"The boys and I had two rounds of chemo and two surgeries," she said.

Her sons, who are both students in the Lake Hamilton School District, were born at 26 weeks and will be 15 in November.

A 2012 study of 400 women who had chemotherapy while pregnant found little to no evidence of negative health effects for their babies, and that premature birth is the greater risk for birth defects and complications, the release states.

The CHI St. Vincent Breast Center at Hot Springs, where Hill was treated, is one of four Arkansas cancer centers accredited by the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer.

In addition to providing radiation therapy services, the center at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs houses a cancer registry, consultation area, physician offices, chemotherapy, community and education rooms for classes and support groups and a dedicated American Cancer Society resource area.

Hill says her 15-year experience has left her was a favorite word -- faith.

"Just having faith to believe and trust that we would survive this and keep on with life. With the help of God, we've done that for 15 years," she said in the release.

Call 622-2277 for more information about sponsorships or tickets which are $30 and are also available at the CHI St. Vincent Breast Center.

Money raised provides New Images, the women's cancer recovery program, with wigs, camisoles, and various articles needed after surgery or treatment.
