Local man found sleeping in Texas man's vehicle arrested on multiple charges

A local man was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges early Saturday after he was reportedly found sleeping in a Texas man's pickup and then fought with a Garland County sheriff's deputy.

Kenneth Ray Novak Jr., 31, who lists an address of 217 Tepee Terrace, was taken into custody shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Houston Drive and charged with a felony count of breaking or entering, punishable by up to six years in prison, and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and public intoxication, all misdemeanors.

Novak, who also had three warrants for failure to appear, remained in custody Monday in lieu of bonds totaling $5,500 and is set to appear Oct. 7 in Garland County District Court.

According to reports, shortly after 7 a.m., GCSD Deputy Shane Tatum responded to Houston Drive, located near Thornton Ferry Road, regarding an unknown man passed out in the pickup of a visiting Rockland, Texas, man, 51, who couldn't wake him up.

The deputy approached the suspect and noted a strong odor of intoxicants coming from him. He was finally able to wake him up and asked him to get out of the pickup.

The suspect reportedly became combative and the deputy was forced to take him to the ground with a minimal amount of force to get him into custody. He noted he got blood all over his shirt because the suspect had apparently cut his hand breaking the window of the pickup to get in.

The report notes the suspect had bled all over the interior of the pickup and also urinated inside. He also allegedly had property on his person which the pickup owner identified as belonging to him.

LifeNet personnel responded and transported Novak to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs to treat the lacerations to his hand, but he was later released and taken into custody.

• A local man was arrested Saturday afternoon for allegedly attacking his ex-wife when she came to pick up their son after a weekend visitation.

William Daniel Holland, 38, of 193 Kelsie Lane, was taken into custody at his residence shortly after 4:30 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

He was initially held without bond but had bonded out as of Monday and is set to appear Oct. 20 in district court.

According to the report, GCSD Deputy Phil Fisher was dispatched to the residence regarding a disturbance and upon arrival made contact with the victim, 31, of Hot Springs, who had an injury to her left jaw, which the deputy noted was swollen and bruised.

She said she had come to the residence to pick up her son who had been visiting his father when an altercation ensued between her and her ex-husband, identified as Holland.

She alleged that he punched her in the face three times. The report notes Fisher and GCSD Lt. David Wolf made contact with Holland inside the residence and took him into custody without incident.
