Time to register

Dear editor:

If you want to vote in the November election, now is the time to do it. The last day to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 6.

Go to the county clerk's office in the Garland County Court House on Ouachita Avenue. Or, if you have picked up a form at the library or elsewhere, you can mail it in. If you do not receive confirmation that you are registered within two weeks, contact the county clerk.

At the polls, voters will also need one of these valid photo IDs:

• Driver's license or Arkansas ID card.

• United States passport.

• College ID.

• Military ID.

• State or federal employee badge.

• Concealed carry permit.

• Free voter ID card, available at the county clerk's office.

To get an Arkansas ID card, go to the Arkansas Revenue Department on Woodbine Avenue, Department of Motor Vehicles office. There is no charge if you have a valid driver's license. If you don't, you will need to provide proof of identity, proof of legal residence and your Social Security number, and there will be a $5 charge. Note: Don't wait until driver's license expires to get your ID card or you will need to bring proofs of identity and residence, and pay the $5.

You can get a free voter ID at the county clerks' office, but it can only be used for voting. The Arkansas state ID card can be used for all forms of formal identification, just like a driver's license.

If you want to register, you must do it before Oct. 6. You can get your ID after that, but you'll need to have it by Nov. 4. If you have not registered to vote and want to help shape our future, please register and make sure your ID is valid now.
