Yard sale enthusiasts should mark their calendars for the "Fire Sale -- 'Our Yard' Sale -- Junk in the Trunk" event from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Lake Hamilton Fire and Rescue Station 2, 1111 Highway 290.
The tradition from England will just be part of the fun at a Meet and Greet event. In England, car trunks are called "boots," so the tradition is to park, open the boot, and sell away, no muss, no fuss. It also helps with a quick getaway in case of sudden rainstorm.
So "boot sale" has become "Junk in the Trunk" for the audience, and is very popular along the East Coast and in Canada as a quick-and-easy fundraiser.
Spaces will be available for a donation of $20, first come, first served, but no electricity is available.
Hamburgers, hot dogs and sodas will be available for sale.
Come join the fun, but the fire chief emphasizes "'Don't' block the fire doors. Those big trucks may have to roll, to your house."
