Officers find meth during traffic stop

A 20-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Richard Street and Albert Pike Road and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison.

Shaquille Mortez Samuels, who listed an Autumn Street address, remained in custody Friday in lieu of bonds totaling $7,500. He is due in Garland County District Court on Monday.

At 12:45 p.m., Officer Williams observed a Chrysler Sebring with expired tags traveling west on Greenwood Avenue. A check of the license plate returned on a Mitsubishi car, and Williams initiated a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Samuels, stated he did not have a driver's license.

According to the affidavit, Williams could smell an odor of marijuana from the vehicle. He contacted Officer Jones for assistance in searching the vehicle. Williams asked Samuels and his two passengers to step out of the car while Jones and his canine partner, Kenna, conducted a search.

Kenna alerted on the front passenger door where less than 1 gram of marijuana was located. In the trunk area, officers found a small bag with a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. According to the affidavit, the owner of the vehicle arrived and stated only two articles of clothing in the trunk were hers and the rest of the items belonged to her boyfriend and driver of the vehicle, Samuels.

ā€¢ A suspect who broke into Steinhaus Keller Wednesday was arrested Thursday on burglary and theft charges.

Wood

Tommy Julian Wood Jr., 41, who listed city streets as his address, was charged with commercial burglary, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, first-degree criminal mischief and theft of property, felonies punishable by up to six years in prison. He remained in custody Friday in lieu of bonds totaling $7,000 and no bond on a parole hold. Wood is due in district court on Monday.

On Tuesday, the owner of Steinhaus Keller, 801 Central Ave., Suite 15, reported a burglary at the restaurant and stated a patio glass door was broken and used as a point of entry. Missing items from the restaurant included alcoholic beverages, a Nikon camera and a bar keep book.

Officers observed video surveillance that showed a male walking near the patio area of the restaurant, climbing over an exterior fence and picking up an object to break the door. The suspect later exited the restaurant through the Broadway Street exit carrying boxes and a trash can. He walked toward the Malco parking lot and behind a dumpster with the boxes.

According to the affidavit, the assistant manager of Spencer's Corner located Wood, who matched the suspect's description, on Malvern Avenue Thursday. Detective Jessup identified Wood as the suspect from the video surveillance.

ā€¢ A local man was arrested Thursday morning for the burglary of a senior living building in December 2014.

Howard

Kenneth Wayne Howard, 42, who listed a Nixon Lane address, was charged with residential burglary, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He is due in district court on Monday.

On Dec. 15, 2014, a subject with West Shores Senior Living, 2607 Albert Pike Road, stated a known person, Howard, entered the building and stole a television. According to the affidavit, Howard entered through a fire door and removed the television from the second floor. He attempted to leave, but was confronted by a maintenance employee. Howard allegedly put the television down, left through the same fire door and later returned for the television.

According to the affidavit, a subject with West Shores Senior Living reviewed video surveillance and identified Howard as the ex-boyfriend of a private caregiver at the center. Officer Williams reviewed the video footage and identified Howard from a recent driver's license photo.

ā€¢ A 33-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.

Lewis

Bryce Leconan Lewis was taken into custody at his residence at 5175 Patterson St. on no bond.

Officer Anaya responded to the residence in reference to a disturbance and a witness stated her friend was inside being beat up. Anaya attempted to make contact with the victim and when she finally came to the door, she stated the suspect, Lewis, fled on foot.

According to the affidavit, Anaya observed the victim had a bloody nose and her eye was beginning to swell. Lewis was found two blocks away, taken into custody and transported to the Garland County Sheriff's Department.

ā€¢ A 19-year-old man allegedly shoplifted infant formula from Wal-Mart earlier this month and was arrested Thursday night for theft of property.

Dylan Jones, who listed a Tennessee Street address, was taken into custody on a $1,000 bond and is due in district court May 5.

On April 3, a subject reviewed video footage at Wal-Mart, 1601 Albert Pike Road, from April 1. A known suspect, Jones, entered the store with a second suspect. The two males went to a vacant register and took a plastic bag before walking to the "Baby World" section of the store. According to the affidavit, the suspects placed two cans of Gerber formula in the bag and exited the store without paying.

The value of the merchandise totaled $54.
