FBC Fitness celebrates five-year anniversary

FBC Fitness, Hot Springs' only full-service church fitness center that is open to the public, is celebrating its five-year anniversary this month. The local community is welcome to celebrate the five-year anniversary today through Saturday at First Baptist Church, 2350 Central Ave. All classes and services will be free this week.

Gym tours, group exercise classes, walking track and exercise equipment are among the free offerings of the celebration week. Guests are encouraged to explore the gym's private training program and make an appointment for a personal health and fitness consultation, a valuable ingredient to charting a successful fitness journey.

There is something for everyone and all levels of fitness in the 40 weekly classes. Some examples include: Cardiac Rehab, SilverSneakers, light impact aerobics, Zumba, cycling, sports conditioning training, kids fitness and more.

"FBC Fitness is a spiritual and physical resource for residents of Hot Springs, which draws 60 percent of its participants from First Baptist Church members and 40 percent from the local community," said Amy Johnson, Fitness Ministry director, in the release. "We started the fitness ministry five years ago to build a relationship with the community as a means of reaching out with our love of God and health," said Johnson. "We've repeatedly heard how FBC Fitness feels like a loving family: warm, inviting, caring, accepting, and fun. Our focus on relationships adds to the overall fitness experience!"

A staff of 15 certified and talented fitness professionals provide the inspiration, motivation and tools that help members achieve their fitness goals. Chuck Lane, boot camp and cycling participant, said, "I came for the workouts, but stayed for the friendships."

"FBC Fitness has been on my schedule the past four years. Starting each workday of the week with expert trainers like Amy, A.J. and Jason has helped improve my overall fitness. The daily routine has become a fitness lifestyle -- a fitstyle!" said group exercise participant, Forrest Spicher.

Patti Fleischner, gym member said, "Mark and I have trained with Amy and A.J. for almost 10 years and hope to continue doing so for many years. As a long-time runner, I credit Amy for helping me stay free of injury while challenging me weekly to strengthen my body for overall health."

The spacious 15,000-square-foot gym features fitness equipment and amenities to help members stay active and healthy all year-round. Features include: full-sized basketball court; indoor walking track; cardio, strength and functional training equipment; full weekly schedule of cycle, Zumba and group exercise classes; personal training services; SilverSneakers; Silver&Fit; Active Kids; child-care.

Pastor of First Baptist Church, John McCallum, said, "FBC Fitness is one of the ways we try to care for the whole person in our community." For five years, FBC Fitness has been dedicated to helping members change their lives and reach their individual fitness goals. With a convenient location, personal training services, popular group exercise classes and a variety of strength, cardio and functional training equipment, FBC Fitness offers fitness solutions for everyone. "I'd like to thank our members, staff, volunteers, friends and family for helping us get to where we are today," said Johnson.
