Participants sought for police academy

The Hot Springs Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy starts its next set of classes on Sept. 3, and the deadline to submit an application is Aug. 14.

The CPA is an "exciting way to learn about police work and how the community and the police department can work together," Cpl. McCrary Means said. "Through a well-prepared curriculum, taught once a week for 12 weeks, students will learn about several aspects of police operations."

Students will learn about the functions of patrol officers, investigators and administrators from the officers themselves and will have the opportunity to view police work first hand by riding with a patrol officer.

"The CPA is an excellent class to take if you want to become informed about police procedures, crime prevention and safety," Means said, and allows residents the chance to develop working relationships with the HSPD staff.

Applicants must pass a background check and be at least 18 years of age by Sept. 3. An application does not guarantee acceptance into the class. Applications may be picked up at the police department or printed off the police department's website at http://www.HotSpringsPolice.com.
