Smith awarded Leadership Scholarship

Chick-fil-A has selected Hot Springs resident Jacob Smith as a recipient of the chain's $1,000 Leadership Scholarship.

Smith was nominated by franchised operator Jonathan Richardson at the Chick-fil-A Hot Springs restaurant where he has worked for three years. He will graduate from New Beginning Christian Academy in May 2016 and will attend Ouachita Baptist University to study business management the following fall.

He is actively involved in the community having served on the New Beginnings Apostolic youth group leadership team and volunteering through his church community outreach program.

"The program recognizes employees who demonstrate the leadership and character qualities to build a successful life, while offering tangible assistance to enrich their lives with education beyond high school," Richardson said. "Jacob has the potential to accomplish great things."

The Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarship Program began in 1973 out of founder Truett Cathy's desire to incentivize restaurant employees to further their education.

Since the program's inception, nearly 32,000 team members have received scholarships, bringing the total amount to nearly $32 million.

All recipients are eligible for the S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award, which provides an additional $1,000 scholarship to the top 25 Leadership Scholarship recipients each year.
