A "Top Hat's & Tutus En Pointe" fundraiser to benefit The Hot Springs Children's Dance Theatre Co. will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at LakePointe Church, 1343 Albert Pike.

Wine and light hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Attendees will be treated to ballet excerpts and variations by the dancers.

The Hot Springs Children's Dance Theatre is a nonprofit organization that is still in the growing stages and needs community support in order to keep high-quality performances going and talented, motivated students developing their skills here in Hot Springs.

Funds are needed to recruit national performers and mentors to augment local students and performers, promote more student participation, increase scholarship opportunities, rent proper venues, improve sets and costumes, and increase community awareness.

The children are a special group of primary ballet students -- growing and learning. "It's exciting to think about the ones who will go on to dance for, maybe, a lifetime -- and those who don't ... well, they will carry memories, disciplines, skills and experience," according to the release.

The director and teacher, Edmond Cooper, is a native of Hot Springs, former professional touring performer and acclaimed choreographer.

His talent, energy and vision breathes life in the dance company every day, on all levels.

He has returned to Hot Springs to be close to family and to dedicate himself fully in this Children's Dance Theatre endeavor.

The theater's upcoming performance of "The Nutcracker" will be performed at LakePointe Church at 7 p.m. Nov. 27, 28, Dec. 4 and 5, and 3 p.m. Dec. 6. For ticket information, call 501-655-6815.

"Nutcracker" excerpts will be performed in Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens at 6 p.m. Nov. 29.
