Duke, Molder, Lingmerth

advance to PGA playoffs

Two Arkansas natives and a third player with in-state ties are among the 125 golfers in the first round of the FedExCup playoffs.

Hope native Ken Duke, Conway's Bryce Molder and former Arkansas Razorback David Lingmerth tee off today in The Barclays at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J. Lingmerth, the Memorial winner in June at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Muirfield Village in Ohio, is ranked No. 21 and goes off No. 1 at 7:26 a.m. CDT with Hideki Matsuyama and Steven Bowditch.

Molder is ranked 89th and in the 12:17 p.m. group off No. 10 with Kevin Chappell and John Peterson. Duke is 112th in the standings and goes off last with Vijay Singh and Luke Donald from No. 10 at 12:39 p.m.

FedEx Cup points amassed during the regular PGA Tour season, which started last October, determine the participants.

Molder has earned $950,800 in 23 PGA Tour events, placing third in the season-opening Frys.com Open (which he won in 2011) and tying for sixth in the Greenbrier Classic. The Harrison-born Molder, 36, attended Georgia Tech and turned pro in 2001.

Duke has earned $800,103 in 29 events including three top-10 finishes. He tied for fourth in the McGladrey Classic and tied for ninth in the OHL Classic, two early-season events, then tied for 10th in June's Travelers Championship, which he won in 2013.

Duke, 46, played at Henderson State and turned pro in 1994, overcoming a case of scoilosis (overly curved spine) for which he underwent surgery at age 16 in 1985. He is a member of the Arkansas State Golf Association Hall of Fame.

Hunter Mahan is defending champion of The Barclays, which dates to 1967 as the Westchester Classic in a New York City suburb. Starting in 2007, the tournament took on its current name and switched dates from June to late August. Beginning in 2008 it has been rotated among different clubs in the New York metropolitan area.
