Abortion and atheism

Dear editor:

Planned Parenthood's stated mission is to underserved communities, and they continue following the goal of their founder, Margaret Sanger: Ridding the world of "human beings who never should have been born." There is a long and well-documented history of racism beginning with Sanger. I'm surprised that you didn't know these facts, Mr. Lindholm. Since 1973, abortion has reduced the black population by over 25 percent; more African-Americans have died from abortion than from AIDS, accidents, violent crimes, cancer and heart disease combined! In America today, a black child is three times more likely to be killed in the womb than a white child.

Planned Parenthood operates the nation's largest chain of abortion clinics. Almost 80 percent of its facilities are located in minority neighborhoods. About 13 percent of American women are black, but they submit to over 35 percent of the abortions.

These shocking statistics are embedded in the history of Planned Parenthood. It is the No. 1 provider of abortions in the United States and received over 350 million taxpayer dollars in 2009. While they claim that they do much more than abort children, their own figures tell a different story. In 2007, they made only 5,000 adoption referrals, while aborting over 300,000 children.

President Reagan once quipped: "I've noticed all those in favor of abortion are already born." Pro-abortionists, finding themselves back in the womb and reacting to the possibility of being killed, would immediately become pro-life! I speak from the experience of "planning" my own parenthood four times, and loving, raising, teaching and enjoying these wonderful rascals. How many have you cherished from conception, Mr. Lindholm? I didn't need a Christian magazine or preacher to advise me concerning that which good parents know inherently.

And Mr. Wiedmann, I looked up "peer" just to be sure. A peer is one's equal. So I would deduce that Richard Carrier's "peers" who reviewed and praised his works were those agreeing with him. Each of us are what we came from; influenced by the experience of our lives. I don't know why you feel compelled to push the Christ out of your life, but it is your choice. However, it is obvious where Carrier is coming from. Atheism allows him to divorce his wife and take in a harem. After all, Sir Julian Huxley, big-time atheist and grandson of Thomas Huxley, close associate to Darwin, when asked by a TV show host, "Why did scientists leap at 'Origin of the Species'?" replied: "I suppose the reason we leapt at the "Origin" was the idea of God interfered with our sexual mores."

A number of well-known atheists have come to believe in a Creator. In his 2007 book, "There is a God," Anthony Flew concluded that atheism is not logically sustainable. Peter Hitchens, Christopher's brother, became a believer after observing the results of socialism in the godless Soviet Union. Wilson, Parris, others, came to realize that a Divine Intelligence in the creation of our world and universe is imperative.
