Actress Julie Adams to lead 'Creature' events in Malvern

MALVERN -- Leading actress Julie Adams will visit her former hometown of Malvern from Sept. 17-20 for various book and movie events.

To start things off, Adams will lead a book reading and signing for her autobiography, "The Lucky Southern Star: Reflections From the Black Lagoon," from 12:15-1 p.m. Sept. 17 in the College of the Ouachitas Library, One College Circle, Malvern.

Her book brims with anecdotes and photographs from her time working onstage, in film and television with such greats as Jimmy Stewart, Tyrone Power, Charlton Heston, Rock Hudson, Elvis Presley, Angela Lansbury and Barbara Stanwyck. In all, Adams has been cast in more than 150 acting roles.

Screenings of perhaps her most well-known movie, 1954's "Creature from the Black Lagoon," are set for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19 at The Ritz Theatre, 213 S. Main St. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Book signings will precede each night's screening, with doors opening at 6 p.m.

And at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 20, Adams will be present for a showing of her movies "Tickle Me" and "Bend of the River," again at The Ritz. For this event, admission is free and donations will be accepted. Doors will open at 1 p.m. for a final book signing opportunity.
