Dear editor: Thankful for firefighters

Dear editor:

Wednesday morning, Feb. 18, at approximately 5 a.m., I received a call that there was fire at our building at 402 Quapaw. This fire was result of a tenant throwing a cigarette in an outside trash can. I want to commend the Hot Springs Fire Department for their quick response, the professional manner in which they conducted themselves, and saving my building and the lives of the people who live there. A few months ago, we had another fire as a result of smoking that not only did extensive damage to our building, but tragically resulted in the loss of a life. The fire department did an exceptional job there also.

If you smoke, please make sure your cigarettes are out before you dispose of them.

My brother recently retired from the fire department and I always gave him a hard time about the key they open doors with, an ax, but let me tell you, thank goodness they are there when we need them. They are truly public servants. Thanks guys for all you do!
