Winter weather postpones more games

A winter storm Wednesday in south Arkansas delayed starts of several regional basketball tournaments and forced regular-season postponements for larger schools.

Heavy snow forced a 24-hour delay of the Class 2A East Region in Mount Ida, where a Mountain Pine-Clarendon girls' game was scheduled at 4 p.m. Tournament director Hal Landrith said the first two rounds would go on as planned, although a day late, and that championship and consolation game might be played Sunday pending approval from the Arkansas Activities Association.

The Class 3A Region 2 tournament in Rose Bud (White County) was postponed one day to accommodate 3A-5 members encountering winter weather. Harding Academy's top-seeded teams play the Glen Rose girls at 4 p.m. and the Haskell Harmony Grove boys at 5:30 p.m. today. Jessieville's games against Rose Bud's girls and Marianna's boys are now at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Friday, Semifinals are Saturday, with finals pushed back to Monday.

The Class 4A South Region at Monticello (both Malvern teams and Arkadelphia's boys) and 3A Region 4 at Fordyce (Centerpoint's boys) also were postponed.

Closer to home, Hot Springs goes to Lakeside and Lake Hamilton is home against Little Rock Hall for make-up games today. The Hall-Lake Hamilton game, rescheduled twice from Feb. 17, risks another postponement if either district cancels classes. The Hot Springs-Lakeside matchup also has been hold on since Feb. 17.

Rescheduled regular-season finales Friday send Lake Hamilton to El Dorado, Lakeside to Camden Fairview and Hot Springs to Hope.

If weather wipes out any of today's games, Saturday is the only makeup date left in the schedule.
