NPMC presents annual Daffodil Days fundraiser

The 27th annual Daffodil Days fundraiser for the American Cancer Society will take place March 17-21 in Hot Springs.

National Park Medical Center employees and volunteers will sell and deliver daffodils to area residents and businesses during that period to help raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society.

Daffodil Days has become a tradition for the Hot Springs community, area businesses, the American Cancer Society, NPMC and Oaklawn Park. All proceeds from Daffodil Days directly benefit the American Cancer Society for research and education along with support for those living with cancer.

"The daffodil is the first flower of spring and therefore has become the so called 'flower of Hope,'" says Pat Herrin, NPMC's director of materials management and Daffodil Days co-chair.

"It's a beautiful symbol for the cause of cancer research, education, programming and awareness," Herrin said.

Daffodil Days is also seen as a kickoff to another great season of fundraising for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event scheduled for May 29 at Bank of the Ozarks Arena.

Many businesses and community members display their daffodils to show their support for the ACS, and many others send them to cancer survivors, caregivers, and others.

"One of the most heartwarming things we see is when businesses purchase the daffodils to be delivered to area nursing homes," said Herrin.

Orders of 50 or more daffodils will be delivered throughout the Hot Springs area on March 17. Smaller orders may be picked up that day from the NPMC Maurice Room from 8-10 a.m. that day. Volunteers will be on hand selling daffodil bouquets, leis and boutonnieres at Oaklawn Park's live race meet on March 21, which will also feature the annual Daffodil Days Classic Race. Daffodils will be sold from 9 a.m. until they are sold out.

"I am so proud of the way that our co-workers come together to make this event happen every year." said Herrin. "Our employees and volunteers stay late and work extra during the entire week of Daffodil Days to cut the daffodils, make the bouquets, leis and boutonnieres, make the deliveries around town and volunteer at the track. It's such a worthwhile event, and it is so encouraging to see the way that the Hot Springs community comes together in the fight against cancer."

Daffodils may be ordered in bouquets as small as 10 flowers for $15 and as large as 500 flowers for $200. Orders of 50 flowers or more are delivered complimentary to Hot Springs and surrounding areas.
