Oaklawn choir performs at Capitol

The Oaklawn Show Choir traveled to the Arkansas State Capitol to perform in December.

Choir teacher Kina Clayton, Assistant Principal Jason Selig and state Rep. John Vines, D-District 25, supported the choir during the event.

Choirs from selected Arkansas schools are invited annually with live streaming performances through the office of Mark Martin, secretary of state. Upon their return to Hot Springs, the choir spread its Christmas cheer to the residents of the Quapaw Care and Rehabilitation Center.

NPCC to host emergency preparedness drill Friday

National Park Community College will hold a Building Lockdown Drill exercise at 10:20 a.m. Friday.

Participants include the Garland County Department of Emergency Management and local law enforcement agencies.

The drill is intended to "enhance preparedness and response capabilities" for the college's administrative staff and students in the event of an actual emergency, according to Janet Brewer, director of Human Resources.

Those traveling to the college campus between 10-11 a.m. should expect delays and limited access to the campus until the conclusion of the drill.

HSHS, HSSD receive educational grants

Hot Springs High School and the Hot Springs School District were recently awarded grants of $500 or more.

Exxon Corporation awarded the high school an Educational Alliance Grant in the amount of $500. Michael Benoit, the district string instructor, was awarded an E-Z Mart Education Grant in the amount of $597.04. The grant will assist Benoit in acquiring the tools to keep the teaching of his students fun, up to date and interesting.

Funds for the Educational Grant Program are made possible through proceeds from the Jim Yates Memorial Charity Golf Tournament hosted yearly by E-Z Mart.
