Dear editor: Wake up call needed

Dear editor:

In Saturday's Jan. 17, 2015, edition of The Sentinel-Record, a letter was published that was so unbelievably naive, that at first glance, I thought was satire. I thought no one could really believe this blather. Then I looked for the name of the author and saw it had been written by a habitual contributor to the letters page of the paper and I realized immediately that I was wrong, there are, in fact, people sharing this planet with the rest of us who truly are this gullible. Frightening, isn't?

Sir, you need a wake up call. These radicals are not killing folks because they find these cartoons insulting, any more than the Benghazi attack was caused by some ridiculous video. These people are killing us because our religion is different from theirs and to their way of thinking, that makes everyone else an infidel and deserving to die. This is no secret, they will tell you this at every opportunity they are given. Their goal is to have their interpretation of the Muslim faith and Sharia law be spread around the world by any and all means available.

This gentleman has taken the time to concern himself with freedom of speech rights and just how far they should go. He is concerned that we are offending the Jihads. I do not recall reading any criticism or questioning of these rights from the letter writer when the satirist and late night comedians were lambasting George Bush with vile comments and cartoons on a daily basis.

This fellow does not mention the rights of the people who have been beheaded and had the videos of these horrific events spread around the world. Nor does he mention the videos of children gleefully shooting kneeling victims in their heads.

However, he has the temerity to put forth the notion that some still believe the admittedly false story that a video produced in California, caused the Benghazi attack. This may be accurate, as I have heard there are some who believe the earth is flat, the moon landing was a fraud and 911 was an inside job. This gentleman's comments beg the question: Just how often do you visit Earth sir?

P.S. I am deliberately omitting the name of this habitual contributor as I fear he may have become addicted to reading his name in print and I shouldn't want to be an enabler to this affliction.
