CADC accepting LIHEAP utility assistance applications

The Central Arkansas Development Council continues to accept applications for the regular Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program utility assistance program.

Regular LIHEAP assists households with home energy and heating bills. Eligible households must meet income guidelines and furnish proof of all household income for the month prior to applying.

To apply for assistance, customers are required to show a photo ID, and a copy of their electric and gas bill, regardless of the bill wanting to be paid. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at the following locations and times:

ā€¢ Clark County -- CADC Arkadelphia Senior Activity Center, 1305 N. 10th St., 1-4 p.m. Monday and Tuesdays. Call 501-315-1121 for more information. Applications are also accepted at Gurdon City Hall, 103 Maple, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.

ā€¢ Hot Spring County -- 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday at the Arkansas Workforce Center of Malvern, 1735 E. Sullenberger. Call 501-337-8401 for more information.

ā€¢ Montgomery County -- 8 a.m. to noon each Wednesday at the CADC Mount Ida Senior Activity Center, 158 Senior Drive. Call 870-867-0151 for more information.

ā€¢ Pike County -- 8 a.m. to noon each Monday at the CADC Murfreesboro Senior Activity Center, 120 E. Court, Suite A. Call 870-285-2312 for more information. Applications are also accepted from 8 a.m. to noon each Tuesday at the CADC Glenwood Senior Activity Center, 229 Betty St. Call 870-356-4212 for more information.

Applicants for LIHEAP assistance must meet income guidelines. For a household of one, monthly countable income is $1,533. The income eligibility limits are set at 60 percent of the state's median income level. Countable income includes check stubs, child support, unemployment, housing utility assistance, SSI, SSA, TEA, VAS and retirement benefits.

Customers must also show a copy of their electric and gas bill, regardless of the bill wanting to be paid. A household must bring proof of income for all household members 18 years of age or older for the previous month, proof of child support, proof of unemployment for all household members age 18 and older, proof of Social Security, retirement, pensions, workers' compensation or disability, and proof of how bills are being paid. Social Security numbers and birth dates for all household members are required. Failure to provide verification requested may result in delay or denial of assistance. Allow agency 35 days to make payment.
