Suspicious person call prompts brief lockdown

A report of a suspicious-looking person prompted a brief lockdown at Langston Aerospace and Environmental Magnet School Wednesday afternoon, but it was "just a precaution," and no one matching that description was located, Hot Springs police Cpl. McCrary Means said.

Police received a call shortly after 1 p.m. of a suspicious person "who looked like they had a rifle" in the area of the school, located at 120 Chestnut St., and officers responded and asked school officials to take temporary lockdown measures.

Officers searched the area and reviewed video footage from nearby security cameras and didn't see anything suspicious. Means noted the person was reportedly in the area and "never on school property."

By 1:30 p.m., after no one had been located and following a quick walk-through of the school, the lockdown was terminated.
