The Artists' Workshop Gallery, 610-A Central Ave., will feature works by Hot Springs Village artists Daryl Wedwick and Caryl Joy Young during February.

Both artists will be present for the monthly Gallery Walk from 5-9 p.m. Friday.

Wedwick is a retired professor of theater, with years of experience in the fine art of doodling. When he moved to Hot Springs Village in 2007, he took advantage of the local artistic climate to develop his own artistic style, a blend of doodling and watercolor.

When the artistic muse visits his studio, she may pose, flirt, dance, toss colors though the air or play with language. She may bring a whole bag full of little sparkles of inspiration from all over the world, or beyond. Therefore, many of his paintings are not intended to make a serious statement about the world around us. They may stretch the viewer's imagination and most are whimsical in nature. Visual puns may happen and their doodle heritage is usually apparent, a news release said.

Wedwick is a member of Brush Strokes, the Artists' Workshop Gallery, Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs and Mid-Southern Watercolorists.

Young loves the bold colors of the chalk pastels she uses as her primary medium. The tactile feel of creating with pastel on a sanded surface makes her feel as if she is part of the scene, as a brush does not intrude. The slightly abstract quality of her work gives her the freedom to explode color onto the surface, it said.

She has participated in many local and regional exhibitions. Along with The Monday Studio Artists, Young will display her work at Garvan Woodland Gardens during April, in June at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre and in August at the Thea Foundation in North Little Rock. Her work can also be seen at Brickhouse Grill and Central Park Fusion Cuisine.

She is a member of the Arkansas Pastel Society and has traveled to points across the United States for workshops in locations including Bend, Ore., Cape Cod, Mass., and Norcross, Ga.
