Lakeside coach Chris Brock knew that if his team continued to play sound defense, the offense would eventually come -- even if late in the game.

The Lady Rams erupted for 23 fourth-quarter points, romping past Camden Fairview 62-34 Friday night at Lakeside Athletic Complex.

"Our girls put in a lot of time and put a lot of shots up," Brock said. "If they miss shots, we encourage them to stay confident and keep shooting. They know eventually they'll start to fall if they keep getting good looks and keep shooting."

Lakeside (13-6, 5-2 5A-South) fed off Tatum Rice's three-point basket with six seconds left in the third quarter. The Lady Rams completed a 10-0 run to 46-21, making four of their first six floor shots and seven of their first eight free throws of the period.

Madeline Perrigoscored 10 of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter. Karli Herron hit four of six three-pointers and finished with 14 points. Rice scored 13 points and totaled a career-high nine rebounds.

Mattie Nester's basket with 45 seconds left set the Arkansas Activities Association mercy rule into motion. The Lady Rams made six of their last nine from the field after starting 13 of 43.

"I thought we played sluggish in the first half (Lakeside leading 25-18)," Brock said. "We had some looks and missed and didn't make a lot of shots early. I didn't think our defense intensity was that good in the first quarter (16-11 Lady Rams), but as soon as we got acclimated to what they were doing, we did a better job defending."

Point guard Mikaya Haygood had 10 points and seven rebounds for Fairview (5-15, 2-5).

Lakeside battles Watson Chapel at home Tuesday for second place in the conference behind Hot Springs.
