Dear editor: Flags to honor the dead

Dear editor:

Now that an editor with The Sentinel-Record has taken to the bully pulpit to join the denouncement of a historic flag and shunned proud generations as hick "good ol' boys" from the "Dukes of Hazard," we must not cower away from his attempt at political correctness!

Yesterday I was lucky enough to purchase one small Stars and Bars flag at a local store and today we went to a family cemetery in Grant County to place flowers, four stars and stripes flags at family markers and the one small Confederate flag between two graves. These graves go back three previous generations to my great-great-grandparents who migrated to (what is now) Grant County in 1840. They raised 14 children. The small Confederate flag was placed between two of their sons resting place, the headstones marked with their names and Co. F, 11th Arkansas, CSA.

To say that I cannot buy a flag to honor their service or that we cannot have a memorial and flag to honor so many lives lost in a horrible war is neither justice nor civil rights.
